Practical AI in Network Operations: What ISPs Can Automate Today

FEBRUARY 9, 2025

Most talk about AI in telecom starts at the model. The useful part for an operator is narrower: notice that a link is filling up before users do, and notice a pattern that does not match last week.

IDEANET's cloud portfolio includes AI and big data workloads that customers can run on private cloud, on IaaS, or with a hyperscaler partner such as Tencent Cloud. That is where a forecasting job or a log pipeline belongs if the company wants to own it. The network underneath is still dedicated internet, peering, and a local cache. A model that cannot reach its data, or that sits behind a congested last mile, does not make the operation proactive.

What an ISP can automate today, without a research project, is ordinary. Alert when utilization crosses a line the customer chose. Alert when latency or loss on an upstream changes. Open a ticket with the site name already filled in. Hand that ticket to a desk that can dispatch, which for IDEANET means the helpdesk and the Jakarta, Surabaya, or Bali office.

What not to automate yet is the judgment call: whether to fail traffic onto a backup link, whether a hotel should rate-limit guest video during an event, whether a change window is acceptable. Those stay with the operator and the statement of work. AI that files the ticket is a tool. AI that closes the ticket by itself is a claim this article is not making.
